Greens To Grow Program

“Greens to Grow” helps you get a head start on spring planting, so you can harvest fresh, healthy greens as soon as possible. We’ve started the plants early, and they are ready for you in a handy size. Cared for properly, you can start to harvest greens a few weeks after planting. Plant an assortment so you can be assured that there will always be something tasty. We usually recommend April 1st as a target date for planting the cold tolerant greens. Check our website for the list of varieties we are growing for 2021.

Greenhouse Workshop at the Racine Store

This is the original basket workshop that thousands of gardeners have enjoyed and the most popular workshop we offer. We’ll help you select plants for sun, part sun, or mostly shade. You plant your selections in our professional 16” fiber pot with deluxe hanger. We’ll care for your basket until you pick it up (by May 30). Cost for the all-inclusive workshop is $65 plus tax. Pre-register in stores or online. Due to popular demand, seven dates are offered!

Moss Turtle with Succulent Shell Workshop

Tuesday, April 20th

Greenhouse Workshop at the Racine Store

This adorable moss turtle has seven holes for planting on its back. After you fill the turtle with provided soil, you can select seven 2” succulents to make an interesting arrangement on the “shell”. This is a make it, take it project, which means that you take your turtle home with you after the workshop. Place it on a plate and put it in a sunny window until the weather warms—possibly the end of May. If you prefer, we will keep it in the greenhouse for you until then. Cost for the all-inclusive workshop is $50. Pre-registration is required.

Kids’ Workshop: A Mother’s Day Mixed Garden Pot for Mom

Kid's Greenhouse Workshop at the Racine Store

This activity enables kids to make a Mother’s Day Garden Pot as a special gift for Mom. Each child gets a 12” plastic pot and mixed plants to make a container that we will grow for you until May 8th, the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Pick up your pot on Saturday, or bring Mom to Milaeger’s on Sunday to pick up her gift from you. (Moms are also invited to do this project with their children if they wish.) For children ages 4-12, accompanied by an adult; one child per container, please. Cost for this little gardener’s workshop is just $25 plus tax and includes a gift tag. Pre-register in stores or online.

Classic Car Show – Free Event!

Come and enjoy the day at the Great Lakes Farmers Market and see a gorgeous selection of antique and classic cars on display during the market. Enjoy “car talk” with fellow enthusiasts. Shop the market for great local food and drinks. Live music!

Photographs and video footage may be taken throughout our events. These will be used by Milaeger's for marketing and publicity in our publications, on our website, on social media or in any other media. Please contact the event organizer if you have any concerns, or if you wish to be exempted from this activity.

When you arrive for a workshop, please check in at the cashier counter. There, you will be given a ticket for the class and will be directed to the workshop area.

If you wish to wear gloves at the workshops, please bring your own. If you forget, Milaeger’s has garden gloves available for purchase. Please wear typical gardening clothing and sensible shoes.

If you have special handicap requirements, please let our staff know when you make your reservation. We will make every effort to make the workshops easy and enjoyable for all.

If you are registering for a large group that would like to work together, please advise our staff when you make your reservation, and we will try to accommodate you.
